Highlights
User question:
Why are local providers and family businesses worth it?
Businesses considered as insider tips are often young startups or small family businesses.
Behind them are often wonderful people working with a lot of passion. Unfortunately, they are overshadowed by the marketing and advertising of big rental corporations every year.
The advantages of local providers
Local businesses often have small teams, and their focus is more on heart and human value rather than money and marketing. The rental prices are usually unbeatable (up to 50% cheaper than the big ones), and all processes and interactions feel much warmer.
“Our 3 months in NZ were incredibly beautiful! […] Many thanks for all your support.”
– Antje, Tom, Lea & Marie
“Many thanks for the lovely holiday with my son. Regards from beautiful Whangarei!”
– Alfred & Leonard

Pictures and Impressions
Which model is right for your trip through New Zealand?
Model Overview
Here’s an overview of the possible models. All models offer (sleeping) space for at least 2 people, complete equipment, all certifications, safety checks, guarantees, and road equipment.
User question:
Which model suits me best?
Choosing the right camper van strongly depends on your travel group.
Families benefit from larger models with plenty of storage space and flexibility, especially on rainy days where the extra room minimizes conflicts. Couples find a balance between comfort and maneuverability in medium-sized motorhomes—enough room for shared moments and individual retreats.
Solo travelers are best served with compact campers: easy to maneuver, cost-effective, and perfect for spontaneous routes.
Live Impressions – Established Providers
Of course, we also work with the big, well-known providers in New Zealand. Occasionally, you can find a bargain if you inquire early enough. In high season, it often gets expensive.
Live Impressions – Family Businesses
Some impressions with the newly rented car from local providers and family businesses in New Zealand. We wish you lots of fun on your journey.

The Advantages
Why we approach the topic of renting in New Zealand a little differently.
Advantage 1 – Local Providers
On large comparison portals, you’ll only find the expensive offers from rental giants. In contrast, we also use our contacts with small local providers to find better deals for you.
Step 1: Your Request
Your request is completely non-binding. You don’t have to pay anything and are taking no risk.Step 2: The Search
Once you have submitted the form, we will contact all our partners in New Zealand and look for the best deal for you. We compare price, equipment, and other services.Step 3: Your Offer
We’ll send you the best offer by email, and you can decide whether you want to secure it.Step 4: Payment
Once you’ve decided to rent the car, it will be held for you until your arrival. The remaining payment is due on-site. A valid credit card is helpful for this.Advantage 2 – Insurance Package
We only send you offers that include comprehensive and 100% watertight insurance. This is crucial so your adventure doesn’t turn into a nightmare.
In New Zealand, you really need to be careful about car insurance. While there are plenty of extremely cheap offers, many of them won’t protect you in case of an emergency. All of a sudden, you’re sitting on a mountain of debt, and your trip is over.We exclude such offers right away.
Advantage 3 – Emergency Contact
In a country like New Zealand, having a German contact person is incredibly helpful. Especially in emergencies. Our partners assist you with everything related to cars, travel, and culture.
Many unexpected things can happen during your trip that you’re not prepared for. We are big fans of these moments because they always bring new insights and perspectives. Still, it’s helpful to have a local contact who can support you in case of problems. We select our partners based on several factors. A very important one is this: Passion & Commitment. You’re supported by people who truly care about you exploring the country safely and happily.
Advantage 4 – Breakdown Assistance
In case of an accident, fast assistance is essential. All providers must be able to offer a solution to be quickly and effectively on site in case of an emergency.
This means: Support with technical problems, uncertainties, and emergencies. Even in remote and hard-to-reach places.
“Thank you for the great advice and support. You guys are doing an absolutely amazing job! Greetings from Auckland.”
– David, 24, from Cologne
“My trip is slowly coming to an end. […] I just wanted to say thanks again for everything. Greetings to the whole team.”
– Laura, 28, from Frankfurt

The Guarantees
For a relaxed start to your adventure, we have secured the following guarantees from all participating partner companies and providers:
1. Function Guarantee
All vehicles have been thoroughly checked and both the official Warrant of Fitness (WOF) and the registration for NZ (REGO) are valid.
Vehicles without valid WOF and REGO cannot be legally driven in New Zealand. Unfortunately, private sales from backpacker to backpacker often involve deceit: forged data, hidden damages, scrap cars. All our partners are legally required as licensed car dealers to not sell or rent out unfit cars. So you don’t have to worry here. :-)
2. Cleanliness Guarantee
All vehicles are thoroughly cleaned. Everything is vacuumed and scrubbed meticulously, covers are replaced, and new mattresses are regularly bought.
Especially for couples, a shared trip is a real challenge. This is partly because you’re forced to live closely together for long periods. If this shared space is dirty, stress and anger are guaranteed. -
Tips for Renting a Camper in New Zealand
The first big question: What different types of campervans are there in New Zealand? And which model is right for your New Zealand adventure? Find out here!
For Families
Larger motorhomes offer crucial comfort for families. The additional living space is a blessing, especially on rainy days: Less cramped means fewer conflicts and more relaxation. Plenty of storage space for children’s toys, equipment, and clothing greatly enhances the family holiday.
For Couples
Medium-sized motorhomes or pop-top campervans are ideal for couples. They provide enough space for shared moments and personal freedom. A compact design allows easier driving and more flexibility on New Zealand’s roads. It’s worth it!
For Solo Travelers
Smaller campers are the top choice for solo adventurers. They are easy to maneuver, more economical, and perfect for spontaneous routes. The compact comfort allows maximum freedom of movement without unnecessary ballast.
Good to know:
With larger models, note: these are harder to handle. However, most roads in New Zealand are easily navigable, so this shouldn’t be a deterrent. -
Frequently Asked Questions
What other KiwiQuesters wanted to know…
User question:
What do I do in case of damage?
In case of damage or malfunction, always contact the place where you rented the car first. Each of our partners is there for you immediately in case of damage.
User question:
Which insurance option makes more sense?
No question:
Definitely the comprehensive insurance option. We don’t want to dictate your choices, but in our experience, this option simply makes more sense.
User question:
Does the complete equipment cost extra?
No! :-)
Everything is included. So no hidden costs. The sad truth:
In New Zealand, it's common for rental companies to hide the actual costs in the details. For every little thing, there is an additional charge. *sigh*Our solution:
We wanted to change this and ensure more transparency. So we said, done: No hidden costs. Instead: All-inclusive! No worries! More fun! :-)User question:
Where are the cars located?
Most of our partners are located in Auckland. You will, of course, receive the exact address via email.
We wish you an amazing adventure!
